Viaggio” means journey, and this program takes the listener into the music and landscape of Italy and France in the 1600’s, the glorious years of the early baroque.

The music is by French court composer Marin Marais (Les Folies), the Italian violinist composers Dario Castello and Giambattista Fontana, and the magnificent violin virtuoso Heinrich Biber. His Mystery (Rosary) Sonatas dating from 1670 are central to this program.

Dutch violinist Margaretha Maimone will perform these works on three different violins: a modern-, a Baroque- and an electric violin entering the extraordinary sonorities of these works. Known for her multi-media concerts through Ridotto, she has created a theatrical narrative giving this concert an extra dimension. Members of Viaggio: William Zito –lute and arch lute, Mark Maimone –violoncello, and Sonia Gezairlean-Grib are dedicated to the performance of early Baroque music.
