About the Director...
Margaretha Maimone

“Though music is the central force of each performance, the charm of Ridotto is that any other art can be asked to give relevance to the theme of a concert. Ridotto concerts become a spectacle for the eye, and a feast for the ear”.

Born in The Netherlands, Margaretha Maimone is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and was a violinist in the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Ballet Orchestra. She was a founding member of the Delta Ensemble for 20th Century Music, and started Ridotto in 1984 in Amsterdam. She later added a degree in Theatre Arts from Stony Brook University.

She has been the creative and organizational force behind Ridotto from the beginning. Her vision of inviting artists of all disciplines to the concert stage has given Ridotto a flamboyant image. Besides being the creator of each program, she also is stage director of Ridotto’s Chamber Opera performances, and narrator and author of its varied theatrical program elements.
